Tumblr Share Button Launched: Joining the Ranks

At OSM we often write about social networking and Tumblr is one of the sites that comes to our attention. Recently we told of a social networking infographic that showed Tumblr as the top riser and we have news today that Tumblr is getting more social and has launched its share button, the Tumblr Button.

This will see it join the ranks of other networks such as Facebook and Twitter with Tumblr saying the Tumblr Button, “offers complete control over how your content appears when shared on Tumblr,” according to Christina Warren over on Mashable. The button will enable content publishers to interact more easily with Tumblr users. If you imagine the Tumblr Button to be the same as share buttons on other sites though, then think again as the functions available are much more advanced.

If you are a publisher that wants to integrate the Tumblr button then head to the Tumblr documents page here, which shows how. There are basic and advanced options, which will enable you to share content with 16 million Tumblr users. Using the advanced option will allow you to customize how your content will appear on the site and the buttons can work in PHP, Ruby or Javascript.

Are you a publisher that will go ahead and integrate the Tumblr button? If you’re a Tumblr user tell us what you think of this new feature by sending us your comments.
