Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Major Update: Mango Reveal May 24

There’s big news afoot in the mobile world as it appears we will soon be hearing much more about the next Microsoft Windows Phone update, a major update known as Mango. We have heard that Microsoft is holding an invitational event on May 24 to reveal more about the update.

The invitation is for a VIP preview where Microsoft says it will “raise the curtain on the next major release of Windows Phone,” and it all kicks off at 10 am in New York. The news comes to us from Todd Haselton over on BGR who explains more about what Mango will offer. It will feature Internet Explorer 9 integrated with Twitter, along with improved multitasking, and also new apps, some of which are Angry Birds, Skype and Spotify.

There is also talk that Microsoft will use Bing Audio for music identification, Bing Vision, used to scan barcodes and Bing Maps navigation, although these features are not yet confirmed. We certainly hope to find out more about this major update for Windows Phone in two weeks time, although the release of the update is rumored to be later this year. This is due to be a massive update and you can find out much more in an article over on PC World, where Jared Newman also talks about a podcast available.
