Motorola Droid 3 & Droid X2 on Verizon: Release Getting Closer

We like to keep our readers informed about new smartphones coming to Verizon and two handsets that are currently being waited for are the Motorola Droid 3 and the Droid X2. Today we have news that the release could be getting closer as they now show on an internal Best Buy system.

Back in March we included both of these phones on a roundup of Droids coming to Verizon and more recently the Droid X2 showed up on the Verizon device management system where we finally ascertained that it was NOT a 4G LTE handset. We also compared the Motorola Droid Bionic vs. the Droid X2, but as you may know the Bionic release has since been put back. We now hear from Scott Webster over on Cnet, that the Droid 3 and the Droid X2 have both shown up on a Best Buy internal system and that although neither has been announced by Motorola or Verizon, this indicates that the releases are nearing.

As a brief recap the Droid X2 is rumored to have a 1GHz dual-core processor and 768MB of RAM with a suggested price of $199 and speculation is that it could arrive with us some time this month. The Droid 3 is rumored to have a 4-inch display, a front-facing camera and possibly a 1GHz dual-core processor too. Up to now the only news we’ve had on a release is that it’s due in the summer.

Meanwhile Kellex over on Droid-Life also reports on these phones appearing on the Best Buy system and makes the excellent point that as the Droid Bionic has been delayed the release of the Droid 3 may have been brought forward.
