Verizon HTC Thunderbolt Update: Battery Life Still a Problem

The HTC Thunderbolt has been one of the phones that many people have been looking forward to this year. We have recently reported that the phone has had a huge price drop on Amazon, how there’s now a toggle app that allows you to turn 4G on and off easily and also a comparison of the sales between the Thunderbolt and the iPhone 4.

There are also a few problems with the Thunderbolt that have been reported including glitches whilst sending text messages and the big issue being the complete lack of battery life. With that in mind the guys over at Verizon have an update to release on the HTC Thunderbolt to fix a few things; unfortunately the battery life will still be a problem.

We learned of this through Phandroid’s Kevin Krause who says in his report that the update will fix issues with text messages and also will enhance 3G connectivity. If it doesn’t automatically download for you this weekend then don’t worry as it has only just started showing on the Verizon page and it might take a few days to get it out there.

From the Verizon Support pages there are two ‘.PDF’ documents that you should have a read through, the first one is called the ‘Benefits of Software Update’ the other is ‘Software Update Instructions’. If you have an HTC Thunderbolt then don’t hesitate to read through the documentation and then give us some feedback about it.

What are they going to do about the poor battery life on this device? Are you satisfied with the update they have provided? Let us know in the comments section below.

Absolutely unacceptable. I am returning the phone tomorrow…after nearly 2 weeks waiting fro the phone to charge, I am giving up. I cannot be expected to be monitoring manually the applications that I am running and keep swithcing on/off the 4G and other services….after all, connectivity is the whole purpose of having an Andriod in the first place.
Fantastic phone otherwise, but if I can only use it for less than 2 hours without charging it again….I will wait for improvements on the battery life front and get the iPhone in the meantime.

I have had mine for a few months now and I can’t get through the day even with very little usage and a host of tweaks. I really can’t understand how they released this phone with such a major problem. Big time buyer’s remorse. I should have returned the phone when I had the chance.

Feeling your pain mate, perhaps they can sort it with an update. There must be something that’s killing the battery… Have you tried turning certain features off and only using them when the time is right? Did it make much of a difference? I know with the iPhone 4 that if you walk around with your WiFi on it constantly searches for networks therefore impacting battery life.
