T-Mobile iPhone on the Way? : Leaked Photos Spark Rumors

Since the AT&T move to acquire T-Mobile was announced, there has been much speculation about whether this means that T-Mobile will finally be getting its hands on the Apple iPhone. We have now heard news that a T-Mobile iPhone could be on the way as some leaked photos seem to show, but we would caution not to take this too seriously just yet as there are is alternative speculation.

When the merger between AT&T and T-Mobile was first announced, T-Mobile issued a statement, which seemed to make it clear that it would not be offering the iPhone, at least not in the near future. However shortly after this we reported that T-Mobile seemed to be backtracking on its prior statement and had removed the statement from its website, which led to speculation that maybe the iPhone 5 would be coming to T-Mobile after all. We also told how as the iPhone is now available on Verizon and AT&T this could well leave Sprint in trouble if it remains the only major carrier to not have the iPhone.

You may have already noted the many stories regarding the iPhone 5 being delayed until around September time instead of the June/July timeframe that many were expecting, but today’s news implies that we could be seeing a T-Mobile iPhone sooner than expected. For a long time now people have been waiting for a white iPhone 4, which has seen many delays but yesterday it seemed an announcement could be made on April 27 amid suggestions the white iPhone was finally on its way to Apple stores. Now we hear from TG Daily’s Raven Lovecraft, sourced from BGR, who brings us the news of leaked photos showing a white iPhone running on T-Mobile’s service.

The photos clearly show a T-Mobile USA 3G logo on the status bar. The leaked image also shows the iPhone displaying a message “Confidential and Proprietary – If found, please contact…”. Also of note is the fact that the model number on this supposed T-Mobile iPhone is N94, which fits nicely with the AT&T iPhone being N90 and the Verizon iPhone being N92. BGR reports thought that this white iPhone looks slightly different to the one expected to arrive very shortly and so could be merely a test for a future iPhone on T-Mobile. Also the iOS on this leaked iPhone seems to be one that is not yet available.

Another interesting take on the leaked images comes from Mark Gurman over on 9to5Mac who reports that the iPhone in the leaked images is carrying an A5 processor, which links to a report by our own Tim Ollason, and speculates it could be an iPhone 4S for developers to use to for iPhone 5 apps or indeed an early prototype of the iPhone 5. One thing that seems fairly certain is that if the almost-mythical white iPhone 4 does eventually materialize over the next few days it won’t be long before we find out if it’s coming to T-Mobile, or if this is a prototype for a later model.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see a white iPhone 4 come to T-Mobile USA or would you rather wait for an iPhone 5 on T-Mobile? Let us know with your comments.
