UberMedia Plans to Challenge Twitter with New Social Network

Back in February we told how three UberMedia apps, UberTwitter, UberCurrent and Twidroyd, had been restored by Twitter following their removal due to privacy concerns. Now it seems that UberMedia could be about to challenge Twitter by creating a new social network of its own.

We may imagine that there are already enough social networks competing but UberMedia plans a service, which directly addresses the most common issues that people have on Twitter. Mark Milian over on CNN reports that 3 people have spoken about briefings for this new social network. Many complaints about Twitter surround the limit on the message length and how beginners to the site can find it all rather baffling and UberMedia plans to address these issues with its own social network.

UberMedia is well known for its Twitter apps, which add to Twitter’s own software, so it seems rather ironic that the company could take advantage of what some might say are Twitter’s deficiencies. Entering the social networking world is notoriously difficult though with sites such as Google Buzz and FriendFeed failing to take off. However the Tumblr site is growing in popularity so proves it can be done. Milian points out that the new UberMedia social network could just be a backup plan in case the company fails to solve current tensions with Twitter. Steve Chadima, UberMedia’s marketing chief said in a statement, “Our foremost desire is to continue to innovate on the Twitter platform and bring more users and usage to Twitter.”

It will certainly be interesting to follow the next developments between Twitter and UberMedia and see if this new social network comes to fruition. Do you think a new site from UberMedia could challenge Twitter? Let us know with your comments.
