Nintendo 3DS: First Image Of Homebrew – Hacked Already

The Nintendo 3DS has been one of the most anticipated devices of the year so far and mostly for the right reasons. In the run up to its release we reported on how its facial recognition will struggle with beards and glasses, how ASDA was the cheapest place to buy it in the UK and also the first official commercial in the US.

There are various measures in place where Nintendo are trying to catch out those users who thought they may be able to use the R4 cards to download and play games for free, but we are yet to hear much about the OS being hacked to run a homebrew and what the implications will be. We are sure to find out soon as the Nintendo 3DS has had the first image of a homebrew leaked, this means it’s been hacked already!

We know that using the R4 card will basically turn your console into a non-returnable brick rendering it unusable. Has Nintendo been clever enough to put something in place to prevent their new 3D console being hacked? I for one hope not, as there could be some really good exploitations that could be used with the 3D camera featuring on the device.

What do you guys think, will we start seeing the console exploited? Will we see what this little bad boy can really do? Let us know in the comments section below.

This is fake. It's just a picture loaded with the picture viewer application of the 3DS…

This is taken in DS mode. You can clearly see that the top screen doesn't have widescreen nor are the green 3D lights on.

False. The screen is in widescreen mode (edge of the screen right next to “Hello world”), and the 3D light is only on when 3D is available (which isn’t here)

3d camera is so junk that there is nothing to exploit.

I find it funny that everyone jumped to the “gaming piracy” conclusion, the second they heard about this. How about DSLinux? That’s an awesome project, with the resources on the 3DS, it could be the new Android. Think out of the box, don’t let proprietary software consume you, if the 3DS is properly hacked, go use it for Homebrew, not to download other people’s hard work.
