BlackBerry PlayBook Release Pre-Orders Now: Best Buy & RadioShack

As we’ve stated before this year is definitely the year of the tablet device and three we’ve been writing about for some time are the Apple iPad 2, the Motorola Xoom and the BlackBerry PlayBook, thought to be the three major contenders. The iPad 2 and Xoom have both been released and next up is the BlackBerry PlayBook. We have news today that you can pre-order now through RadioShack ready for the release date next week, April 19. Also pre-orders are available through Best Buy.

This much-hyped device was delayed slightly and many people can’t wait to get their hands on it. The tablet, which we included in our 5 of the best tablets at CES, has a 7-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, and 1GB of RAM and runs on the brand new QNX operating system which has impressed many. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear camera along with a front-facer of 3-megapixels for video chat.

News of pre-orders came to us from Todd Haselton over on BGR, sourced from RadioShack and the RIM tablet is priced at $499.99. You may also want to take a look at the official product pages here where you can also view videos. You can also pre-order online and the website tells us pre-orders are also available through Best Buy. Later on today we’ll also be bringing you a roundup of reviews for the BlackBerry PlayBook so do check back with us for that.
