Twitter Goes Nuts For WWE Edge Retirement

Twitter is normally one of the first places on the Internet to react to most things; normally they are to do with events around the world or a brand new device that is nearing release. Something else that it’s great for though announcements made by professional sports men and women.

For any of you wrestling fans out there you may or may not know that Twitter was going nuts for the WWE superstar Edge as he announced his retirement last night on Monday Night RAW. Fresh off the back of Wrestlemania where he smashed the heck out of Alberto Del Rio’s $120,000 car the superstar was announced that he can no longer compete.

In his final goodbye on RAW he mentioned about how even though this is sports entertainment the pain is real. You just have to look at the number of injuries that there is every year from these men and women that are competing for your viewing pleasure.

Edge is currently the World Heavyweight Champion and features on the Smackdown roster; he has had quite a career in the WWE especially with his partnership with Christian. He let on in his last RAW appearance that he suffered an injury to his neck where he needed a lot of surgery to put it right a few years back, but he has recently been suffering a lot of pain and loss of feeling in his arms. This is because as he continues to compete he continues to aggravate that old injury.

Edge was due to be competing at the next PPV ‘Extreme Rules’ where he would have competed against Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match but his sudden retirement must mean that the belt is up for grabs. Perhaps we will now see Del Rio vs. Christian for the World Heavyweight Championship, I guess we will just have to wait and see.
