HTC Flyer UK & Europe Release Date: Confirmed as May 9

We’ve been bringing you a lot of news about a new tablet on the way, the HTC Flyer, which has had a lot of positive press so far and which we included in our look at some of the top upcoming Android tablets. Much of the HTC event in London today was focused on the impressive HTC Sensation (aka Pyramid) smartphone coming to T-Mobile, but we also heard the HTC Flyer UK release date, confirmed as May 9, which also applies to the rest of Europe.

We first heard about this tablet in January then heard more from MWC in February when we wondered if it could rival the iPad, the Motorola Xoom and BlackBerry PlayBook. As a brief recap on specs we can tell you that the Flyer has a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facer along with 32GB of storage. We also gave you news that it is available to pre-order on the Carphone Warehouse site, although there was no official release date available and before that heard that it would also be available from Clove.

News of the May 9 date for the UK comes to us from Stuart Miles over on Pocket Lint and it was announced by HTC’s European Vice President, Florian Seiche. There’s still no official news on the price from HTC but Carphone Warehouse has a price on its page as £599.99. When we checked the Carphone Warehouse site we were surprised to find the HTC Flyer listed as ‘in stock’ but Chris Davies over on Slash Gear also noticed this and confirmed with the site that although it reads as being in stock, it will not be shipped until May.

The one drawback of this device is the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS rather than 3.0 Honeycomb but it does have the latest HTC Sense UI so we reckon the HTC Flyer will still attract its fair share of customers. Will you be purchasing the HTC Flyer? What would make you choose this tablet over others already on the market or due to be released soon? Let us know with your comments.
