Twitter Top 10 Trending Topics: This Week’s Cut

It’s that time of the week again, that’s right the Twitter top 10 trending topics and this week’s cut is pretty impressive. We normally bring you this report weekly courtesy of Mashable; once again their author Matt Silverman has compiled his report and published it for all of our viewing pleasure.

So let’s have a look at what is in this week’s trending topics, straight in at number ten where the Jonas Brothers have been featured because they all featured in a photoshoot without wearing their shirts. In 9th spot resides one of our regulars in the top 10, Justin Bieber. This week he is featuring because of his April Fool’s Day pranks.

In the 8th position is an interesting one, it’s one of my personal favorite cartoons from my childhood Tom & Jerry! This one started because the account @PROMOTEfor tweeted “SCOOBY DOO / TOM & JERRY?” This lead to people talking about the cartoons that they watched as kids. Ranking in 7th position is the Cricket World Cup where the Indian Cricket Team was victorious in the final against Sri Lanka.

Occupying number 6 in the chart is another that has regularly featured in the top 10 and that is Soccer/Football. There’s been plenty of Champions League football and also one of the most memorable goals seen in the competition from Dejan Stankovic. He volleyed the ball over the top of the goalkeeper from near the half way line! There were a number of other big name players in action too such as Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi. In 5th spot is U.S. Politics because the U.S. legislators were working to see if there was any way that there could be some kind of compromise reached before a possible government shutdown.

Cruising in at 4th position is the Academy of Country Music Awards because many fans were enthused by Taylor Swift winning Entertainer of the Year at the ACMs. In 3rd position you will find NCAA March Madness, this was high up there because of college basketball fans watching the final four games and the NCAA finals.

Second spot went to Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards; this was the 24th time that the awards have run where Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez ran away with awards for their popular shows on the network.

In this week’s top position is not really a surprise, it’s my personal favorite day of the year, April Fool’s Day. This is the one day a year where you can get back at your friends for anything they have done to you throughout the year and they can do nothing about it! This ranked so highly this week partly because of Google’s Gmail Motion and Google search antics but also because of other pranks that people will have been pulling.
