Samsung Galaxy S II (S2) Release News: Delayed but Upgraded

Over recent weeks we’ve been bringing you news about the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S II (S2). Just recently we looked at the Galaxy S II vs. the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and we’ve also told how the official specs are now live and reported on TouchWiz 4.0. We have now heard some release news that the Galaxy S II could be slightly delayed but that it could be upgraded to include a 1.2GHz processor.

As a brief recap some of the specs of this hugely impressive-sounding smartphone are a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen, 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facer, 16/32GB storage, 1GB RAM, and running on Android 2.3, Gingerbread. It’s rumored to be coming in variants to different carriers. We, along with other tech sites reported the processor as being a 1GHz dual-core and the last rumor of a release date was for sometime in May.

Now though we hear from GSM Arena that Samsung is to give the Galaxy S II an extra boost, as if it’s not impressive enough already, by upping the processor to a 1.2GHz dual-core. The news came from the Samsung Estonia office’s Facebook page and makes this handset even more tempting. GSM Arena also notes that the Samsung S II microsite for this product no longer has an exact specification listed for the processor so this backs up the information. Along with that, in an update GSM Arena states that they have had further confirmation of the improved processor from an “internal source.”

Engadget also reports on this news, notes that this might delay the Galaxy S II release slightly and informs us that some UK retailers now have a release date of May 6 (so not really a delay when looking at the earlier rumors). However Samsung India is now reporting a global release delay of at least one month and saying the release won’t be before June.
