2011 Tablet Comparisons: Which One Should You Choose?

Earlier this year we noted that this would be the year of the tablet and it seems the plethora of tablets being released and coming up in the next few months is rather bewildering. Prime examples are the iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom (both already released) and we will shortly see the BlackBerry PlayBook and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, not to mention the many, many more. So if you’re in the market for one of the 2011 tablets, which one should you choose?

The sheer amount of tablets available is frankly now rather bewildering and this is where a really helpful article over on Laptop by Mark Spoonauer comes in which will advise you what you should consider when making comparisons. The tablet buying guide will help you to navigate all the areas that you need think about before you finally decide on the right tablet for you. An important thing to consider for example, is which is the best size tablet for your needs? A smaller screen may be more portable but if you’re most likely to be using it at home then you may prefer a larger screen.

Then you need to consider the operating system. Apple’s iOS is one of the factors that make the iPad so popular, but the Android OS also has a lot of fans, not to mention HP’s webOS, Windows 7 and the new OS for the BlackBerry Playbook, QNX. The article goes on to look at what specs matter and points out which ones really count and then takes a look at whether to choose a built-in 3G or 4G device or a WiFi version.

The final considerations are features such as cameras, ports and what accessories are available and will help you to decide which features are most important to you. If you want to see the full rundown on all of these points head to the complete article at the Laptop link above. You can find the product pages for the two tablets we’ve mentioned that are already released at Motorola here (Xoom), or Apple here (iPad 2).
