Apple iPhone 5 T-Mobile: Earlier Statement Saying No Retracted

When the story came out that giant phone carrier AT&T was in a bid to acquire T-Mobile USA, a lot of T-Mobile customers wondered straight away if that meant the Apple iPhone would be coming to T-Mobile. We then told how T-Mobile had issued a statement to say there would be no T-Mobile iPhone but now we hear that statement has been retracted. What can it all mean?

We’ve been endeavoring to keep readers up-to-date with all the news and speculation regarding the iPhone 5 and the statement from T-Mobile, issued as part of a release with Q & A’s about the AT&T acquisition sounded pretty categorical at the time. However an article over on Beatweek tells how an eagle-eyed reader noticed that this statement had now been removed from the Q & A’s and in fact the word ‘iPhone’ now doesn’t appear anywhere on that list.

Of course the fact that the AT&T and T-Mobile deal may take a year to conclude means that by the time it goes through the iPhone 5 could be well into it’s life cycle, so it’s possible T-Mobile may not get on board until the iPhone 6. However we did recently tell of rumors that the iPhone 5 might not be released until the third quarter instead of June as most people are expecting. We shouldn’t forget though that an iPhone 5 for T-Mobile does not necessarily depend on the merger with AT&T. It could be that Apple and T-Mobile make their own deal anyway, to enable T-Mobile to carry the prestigious handset.

An article over on Gather by Anya Vinclauv also looks into the question of an iPhone 5 for T-Mobile so read her take for more on this issue. What are your thoughts on the T-Mobile statement about not carrying the iPhone being retracted? Do you think this means it may possibly come to T-Mobile after all, or maybe it’s just wishful thinking? Let us know with your comments.

The 3rd quarter starts in July, so that's not really much of a change from June
