Here at OSM we often report on businesses using social media and how major companies are now using social media for advertising campaigns and earlier today we heard how Coca-Cola is to invest more in social media. We now hear of a new Ford campaign promoting the 2012 Ford Focus that is using Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and featuring an orange sock puppet called Doug!
It’s certainly a new and more edgy approach to advertising from Ford, in an attempt to attract a fresh demographic to its brand and the puppet, “Doug” is actually the voice of actor and comedian Paul F. Tomkins, according to The Drum. You can see a video below this story and this is just one of 6 clips to be featured so far.
More clips on the character’s channel will be added each week and apparently Ford feels this online campaign will reach those who wouldn’t normally hear of the car. Ford’s digital marketing director, Jon Beebe, said, “The 2012 Focus is so wildly different, we wanted to grab their attention and have them pay attention.” Ford has previously turned to social media for marketing and it will be interesting to see what impact this latest campaign has.
What are your thoughts on this latest campaign from Ford and do you think Doug is funny and could persuade you to buy a Ford Focus 2012? Maybe you have a different opinion about Doug? Let us know with your comments.
