Facebook & YouTube Take Part In Sony Ecrisson Tennis Star Campaign

As we near the biggest tennis event of the year, millions will be glued to every aspect of the game from TV to online updates. Wimbledon brings excitement to many that follow the game of tennis.

Adding to the search for the next tennis masters, social media is stepping up to the baseline with the help of Facebook and YouTube in a new Sony Ericsson advertising and marketing campaign.

Following six female contenders looking for Wimbledon success, the players from various countries around the world including Heather Watson (UK), Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA), Alize Cornet (France), Sabine Lisicki (Germany), Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia) and Sorana Cirstea (Romania) will feature on a dedicated “Hotshots” Facebook page as well as a YouTube channel.

As www.marketingmagazine.co.uk stated, each player will have the chance to win a €100,000 prize after competing in a range of challenges in order to win favor with the voters come September.

One of the Sony Ericsson developers Stephan Croix commented “‘Xperia Hot Shots’ is an exciting and innovative web TV show that will bring added entertainment to women’s tennis. It provides fans with the chance to get closer to WTA players and celebrities, and see them take part in unusual challenges and amazing stunts, all of which they can watch on their Xperia smartphones.”

The challenge was launched with the backdrop of Miami fronted by a 36ft-tall Facebook page headed by Wimbledon female tennis legend Maria Sharapova, where the six players were introduced.

These contestants were selected due to their desire to interact with the crowd on a social media platform. Are you a follower of the world renowned tennis tournament, will you be participating in following the group?
