Facebook Set To Buy App Developer Snaptu

As were all aware social networking giant Facebook is one of the most visited sites in history, a vast percentage of its page views comes from mobile devices so with this in mind the company have set out to buy mobile app developers Snaptu.

These developers which were founded back in 2007 provide useful and innovative services to mobile users that don’t have access to more advanced smartphones, its these services that first drew the social network to them when the company approached Snaptu about developing a Facebook app for feature phones.

According to Digitaltrends the success of this app ultimately became the decision maker and made the social network push towards buying the app developers, this deal which has been confirmed by Snaptu is expected to close in a few weeks finalising the venture between these companies.

There has been no confirmation on how much this deal is worth but, according to this post from Chicagotribune.com the figure could be anywhere up to $70 million, Facebook Spokesman Jonny Thaw would not confirm the terms of this deal but did have this to say “As part of Facebook, Snaptu’s team and technology will enable us to deliver an even better mobile experience.”

This new venture should dramatically improve the social networks mobile phone services for its 500-million-plus members, what are your thoughts on this?
