Xbox 360 Kinect: Hacked To Work With The PS3?

The Microsoft Kinect is one of those devices that everybody wasn’t too sure about when it was first talked about and since then the Kinect has rocketed. We have seen the sales of the motion controller and its games surpass the 10 million marker as well as it playing its part in the Xbox leading the way in Q2 for Microsoft’s earnings.

Something that has been more widely talked about since the SDK is being released for the Kinect this Spring is that it is being hacked to work in different ways. We have seen it working with the iPhone and the iPad but you only have to look on YouTube for different examples of the device being exploited. Now we have seen perhaps the most impressive one yet, the Xbox 360 Kinect has been hacked to work with a PS3.

Yes you did read that correctly, the Kinect is working with the Sony PlayStation 3. We learned of it over at Engadget where Richard Lai has added an article where he talks about the dilemma of picking between the two consoles. Of course both consoles have their pros and cons; the PS3 has the Blu-ray player, great processing power and what’s described as glowing lollipops. On the other hand you have the Xbox 360 with its superb futuristic style of the Kinect.

If you would like to read more about this, the method behind it and code behind the work carried out by Shantanu Goel over at tech.shantanugoel.com. In the mean time check out the video of it working at the bottom of the article.
