Samsung Galaxy Tab & Epic 4G on Sprint: Firmware Updates Now

There’s good news today for Samsung Galaxy Tab and Samsung Epic 4G owners on Sprint and if you’re one of them you are about to receive a firmware update for your device. Sprint ID will be added, the carrier’s own Android skin that came to the Optimus S and Transform last year, and Android 2.2 Froyo is also coming back to the Epic 4G with the same update.

We say ‘coming back’ as the Epic 4G did in fact receive the Froyo update several weeks ago but some glitches led it to be pulled and Epic 4G users had to revert temporarily to Eclair. The news comes to us from Chris Ziegler over on Engadget, who tells us the rollout for the update starts today and should be completed by March 24, this Thursday.

The Sprint press release says that the Sprint ID will bring a “unique mobile experience to 4G and tablets for first time.” With Sprint ID users will be able to customize their devices with widgets, apps, wallpapers, shortcuts and more in one simple download. This is based on the users interests or preferred brands and there are 16 lifestyle Sprint ID packs and also branded pack downloads available including Yahoo!, Home Base and ESPN ID. Epic 4G owners can download up to 5 packs, while select packs will be available for the Galaxy Tab

Sprint users with the Galaxy Tab or Epic 4G will receive notifications of the over-the-air software update in the notification tab on their device. To find out more about Sprint ID and the ID packs visit the website here or for individual device support go to www.sprint.com/epicsupport or www.sprint.com/galaxytabsupport. If you have either of these devices have you already received your notification for the software update? What are your thoughts on Sprint ID? Let us know with your comments.

The upgrade deleted my ringtones, took out my Google search and the app killer will not stop the music player.
