Motorola Droid Bionic Release: Verizon Clue – Could be April

Since we first heard of the Motorola Droid Bionic smartphone we’ve been becoming more and more excited about this 4G dual-core processor phone, due for the second quarter for the Verizon LTE network. We’ve had many requests following our articles, for more news on a release date but until now we’d had no further details. Now though, we have a rumored release date for the Droid Bionic of mid-April.

We’ve really liked the look and sound of this phone from everything we’ve heard about it so far and included it in a look ahead at upcoming Droid-branded phones on Verizon a few days ago. We’ve also published a Droid Bionic vs. HTC Thunderbolt comparison and only yesterday in our HTC Thunderbolt review roundup, mentioned that if people really needed fast speeds now, then the Thunderbolt might be the phone for them, but that otherwise, a better option might be to wait for the Droid Bionic as not only is it a 4G Android phone (like the Thunderbolt) but it will also have a dual-core processor (unlike the Thunderbolt).

Some people may have already purchased a Thunderbolt as there was no release date available for the Droid Bionic and they weren’t sure how long they’d have to wait but now we’ve heard of this mid-April rumored release date from Chris Burns over on Android Community. When in a Verizon store they asked some questions about the Droid Bionic and were rather surprised when Verizon quite happily gave out some news of its release. Although the information didn’t come with a confirmed release date Verizon seemed pretty sure it was coming in mid-April.

Meanwhile if you’re interested in another snippet about the Droid Bionic you could do worse than check out an article by Brad Molen over on Unwired View. Apparently a poem has been posted by somebody who has previously supplied accurate info about Verizon products and this poem is about the HTC Thunderbolt but gives clues to a Droid Bionic release date.

The poem is all rather cryptic but over on Unwired View they’ve had a good stab at attempting to decipher what it all means. We’d say it really only confirms (if accurate) that the Droid Bionic should be with us in the second quarter as we already knew, but you might want to take a look at the poem and decode it for yourself. Let us know if you come up with more info from it! If you want to find out more about the Motorola Droid Bionic you may want to take a look at our closer look at this promising smartphone at the link.

Are you waiting for the Droid Bionic? How long are you prepared to wait? Are you holding off buying the HTC Thunderbolt to see when the Droid Bionic will come out? Let us know with your comments.

Definitely getting the Bionic! It might not have the same RAM but it has dual core, so I don't want my next phone to be obsolete in a couple of months.

    • Neal

It actually has better RAM since the Bionic has computer grade DDR2 and not the typical phone grade DDR which I believe is what the Thunderbolt has. The Bionic (at least in theory) with the Tegra dual core and DDR2 RAM should be blazingly FAST!

Been waiting months for this phone and the ram is DDR2 not the normal DDR most phones come with so not worried about the 512mb. NE2 is up so at least the pocket book wont hurt too much. the Thunderbolt was never an option for me, eyed the Revolution but decided against it with a head to head comparison of the Bionic, Revolution, Stealth and Thunderbolt lineup. The Bionic is the only one with the stats to outmatch the others.

    Sites like this are retarded.
    You post rumors as news.

Why not walk out the door, go to a Verizon store, and ask them a question yourself?

    Lame

I made a post on the article comparing the bionic and htc pyramid that explains why DDR2 ram is superior to the original DDR grade. The bionic is definitely gonna be the best phone from verizon this year (IMO and a lot of other people's) Also, I work for verizon. The only phone that may dethrone the bionic would be this rumored motorola targa for a holiday release this winter. As far as dual core processors go…Android 2.2 (froyo) and gingerbread (2.3) don't even support dual core so the only advantage for a dual-core phone is gaming. Rumors say teh next update will blend honeycomb (android 3.0) features with gingerbread features…possibly bringing dual-core support to android phones As far as "site sucks" not everyone working for verizon has the same info. Also, the internet is the best place for getting news and info because it combines news and info from people all over the world so getting information from here actually makes more sense than wasting time and gas and driving somewhere to ask a question you may not even get an answer to. Way to waste everyone's time reading your pointless post.

p.s. A large portion of all the news we read is a rumor so shut up!

Hey Jeff, thanks for writing, very informative.

Do you think that the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will arrive anytime soon. I am hoping that it will come out as rumored in May also. Then it will be between this Motorola and the Samsung. What are your thoughts?

I've had my Sanyo Katana II for 6 years. Been on the edge as far as when I wanna switch to a smartphone. I still think the monthly fees for owning a smartphone with a data plan are too high. I like the Bionic though, and I want mobile GPS… We'll see…
