iPad 2 International Release: First Delay Official – More to Come?

Here at OSM we’ve been keeping you informed with all the developments about the Apple iPad 2, both before it’s release last week, and since. If you’re after the iPad 2 you’ll probably already have noticed how hard it is to get hold of one and we previously wondered if the international release might be delayed because of this lack of inventory. We now have news that in at least one country the release has been pushed back a month and this seems to imply the release could well be delayed in other countries too.

The launch of the iPad 2 in the U.S. on March 11 was a phenomenal success and within hours of online orders we told how shipping had been put back from 2-3 hours to 2-3 weeks. Later we told how shipping times for online orders were now 4-5 weeks and also that many retail stores were already sold out of the hit tablet device. Yesterday Maddy Rowe here at OSM then told how following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan there could well be problems obtaining the necessary components for the iPad 2, which has led to further speculation of supply problems.

Now it appears that as we previously suspected might happen, the international release of the iPad 2 will be affected and we have heard of at least one country, the Czech Republic, where the release has been delayed by a month. The news comes to us from Seth Weintraub over on 9to5Mac, and the Czech Republic had previously been listed as one of the many countries where the iPad 2 was to be released on March 25 (other countries for March 25 release included the U.K., and many others in Europe, Mexico, Australia, and more).

The new release date is on the official Apple website for the Czech Republic, (with dubna meaning April). It’s not been made clear whether this is a problem specific to the Czech Republic or not but if not it’s certainly indicative that we could be seeing delays of the iPad 2 release in other countries too. We have just checked the release date for the iPad 2 on the Apple website for the U.K. and it still reads as March 25 but we’re not holding our breath.

Meanwhile Dave over on Apple Bitch also reports on the delay for the Czech Republic and notes the continuing scarcity of the iPad 2 for sale in the U.S. However he recommends their useful iPad 2 Stock Locator as a way of finding the most likely places you may be able to find stock so if you’re in the U.S. that’s a good option. Are you in a country where the iPad 2 is due for release on March 25 and do you have concerns that it may not appear on that date after all? Let us know with your comments.
