iOS 4.3 Update: Battery Life Issues Reported- How about you?

The latest Apple software update, iOS 4.3, was released only a week or so ago and yet there seem to be a few issues with the new operating system. We have already reported on some graphics issues for the iPod touch 4th generation and now it seems some users are reporting a worsened battery life on various iOS devices.

The iOS 4.3 update introduced new features such as new iTunes Home Sharing, updated AirPlay, faster Safari and the addition of Personal Hotspot. OSM’s Tim Ollason also informed readers how to enable multitasking gestures on iOS 4.3 for the iPad 2. Mark Gurman over on 9to5Mac reports though on how the update also seems to have introduced a subpar battery life, with many of the sites’ readers reporting that battery performance was “drastically” worse and one saying that it “will even randomly drop 15-20%.”

It’s not clear yet just what is causing the problem but it could be because the speedier Safari uses more processing power, hence battery juice. A poll on 9to5Mac shows that a huge number, 72.9% at present, say that their battery life has worsened following the 4.3 update. Steve Mayo over on AllNewsMac reports on Apple’s Discussion Forums being filled with comments about the battery issue and points out that a similar problem happened after the iOS 4 update was issued in July 2010, which Apple solved shortly afterwards.

We’d like to hear from you if you have noticed any battery life issues since the iOS 4.3 update and on what devices? Let us know with your comments please.

Yes my battery on my ipod touch 4 was in the red before lunchtime after being fully charged up over breakfast today. It is also throwing me out of apps after just a few seconds meaning I can't listen to music which is what it was designed for! I'm very unhappy. I feel Apple have rendered my new ipod useless with this update and a bit of public reassurance from them saying they are aware of the problem and that they are working on it would be the very least I would have expected by now.

I have a 3rd gen ipod touch running 4.3. No battery issues that I can see, but My videos wont play properly. Sometimes my videos just fail to load, or it takes a really long time for them to open. These are MY videos, not you tube or anything else, just videos I've converted to mp4 and loaded thru itunes.

I can go from 80% to 20% just from about 10 minutes playing Uber Racer. Had to charge my ipod 3 times today to keep it from dying.

My battery drops from 100% to 40% or so, in airplane mode and in standby over a period of 6-8 hours. This started as soon as I updated to 4.3. Pretty sure they are related lol.

I think I took care of the battery issues by turning PING off. But after the 4.3 update, my iPhone 3GS won't recognize my car charger. Grrr…..

My i-phone 3GS battery now only lasts 3-4 hours, mostly on standby ever since the 4.3 update… STEVE JOBS HELP!!!!
