Facebook Places Goes Global: Your Thoughts?

The reports about changes within Facebook seem to just keep on coming. There has been a whole load of them recently including the post button being removed from commenting and replaced with the simple tap of the Enter key, removing the right to unmerge places & pages and of course the addition of other locations being suggested on Facebook’s places.

Some of these updates must have been in preparation for the biggest one of the lot to filter through, Facebook places going global and we would really like to know your thoughts on this one. It seems like a logical move in our eyes for the biggest social network in the world to expand all of its features to its users around the world especially as the likes of Foursquare has been able to find success in multiple locations.

We first learned of the changes through Nick O’Neill’s article over on allfacebook.com, he explains that Facebook turned the new pages on in a number of new countries that included Israel, Bulgaria and the Philippines being amongst them. He also explains that International support for the Facebook brand and for developers who look to build different services into the Facebook Places platform.

As some of you may already be aware more than 65% of Facebook users live outside the US so this will be a welcomed change for those who don’t already have it. We are expecting there to be further changes now that this has expanded so far such as deals and places to integrate further and for different promotional offers to feature within the places platform, but I guess we will have to wait and see won’t we.
