Google Street View: Website Revamp – Go Explore

Here at OSM we’re big fans of Google Street View. Despite some people’s concerns about privacy issues we also highlighted a case where a caravan thief was caught on Street View. Now we have news of a major revamp for the Street View website.

Along with spotlighting some of the most interesting locations that are covered by Street View, the revamped website also shows locations of Street View cars, according to Stan Schroeder over on Mashable, sourced from Google. There is a map that shows every area now covered by Street View and the difference in the amount of the locations covered now as opposed to when the service launched in 2007 is vast.

On launch only several cities were featured and now vast swathes of North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand are covered along with some areas of Japan, Brazil and Indonesia. The revamp has instructions for how to use Street View and also explains the technology behind the groundbreaking service. The Next Web also reports on the overhaul of the website and includes an interesting video of the Street View trike. Many of us may not have given much thought to those places not accessible by car, but Street View also uses a Trike, Snowmobile and Trolley.

Take a look at the revamped website and tell us what you think. Are you a Street View enthusiast? Let us know with your comments using the box below.
