Top Trending Topics On Twitter: This Week’s Top 10

It’s that time of the week again, the votes are in for this week’s Twitter Top 10 as provided by Mashable, and we should warn you before we go ahead these stats are generally calculated on a Friday therefore the devastation that has hit Japan over the last few days will not be present however we are pretty sure that it will feature in next week’s chart.

So let’s go straight in at number 10 with Saturday Night Live. The show featured Miley Cyrus where she appeared in ‘The Miley Cyrus Show’ sketch as teen sensation Justin Bieber. That brings us nicely onto the 9th position for this week, that guy himself Justin Bieber, the Biebester arrived in Ireland for his concert where the Twitter universe welcomed him and got his following up to 8 million, pretty impressive.

In at 8th spot is Comic Relief 2011, this saw many Tweets about the ’24 Hour Panel People’ which was the BBC’s 24-hour penal game marathon for the UK’s efforts in Comic Relief 2011. The latest Comic Relief projects is called Twitrelief offering Twitter follows to the highest bidders with many stars putting extras to their offers to be auctioned on eBay. In 7th position is one that has become a regular in the charts and that is Soccer/Football. This week has seen quite a few high profile matches from the Champions League with Barcelona playing against Arsenal at the Nou Camp, Liverpool against Manchester United and some sad discussions of 22-year old Miki Roque who has been forced to retire from football due to a malignant tumor in his pelvis, poor fellow.

In the 6th spot was the 14th anniversary of the unsolved murder of Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. People were tweeting in memory of his music. Coming in 5th position is Fraternity/Sorority where most of the nine historically black fraternities and sororities hit Twitter’s trending topics.

Flying into 4th place is ‘Harry Potter Series’. This is mainly because one of the films (the Goblet of Fire) shown on Indonesia Trans TV followed by a debate between the Harry Potter Series and the Twilight series. In 3rd place was the International Women’s Day where it was celebrating its 102nd anniversary in different countries around the world, this was celebrated on March 8th 2011.

The runner up in this week’s chart went to ‘Carnival’ this was celebrated in a lot of countries around the world with the largest number coming from Brazil. Top spot this week went to that man as we predicted last week… Charlie Sheen. This week saw many retweets from his account as well as from fake Charlie Sheen Twitter accounts. Mashable also mentions that many Twitter users were talking about Sheen’s Ustream webcast on Saturday night.
