Image Conscious Females Value Looks: They Have The Most Photos

Have you ever noticed the women on your Facebook friends list who seem to have lots and lots of photos mainly of themselves? Well according to some research that has been done these are the people who value their looks most.

The research is being reported on over at allfacebook.com by their author Gregory Pleshaw who is talking about a study appeared in a journal called Cyberpsychology, behavior and social networking lead by a researcher named Michael A.Stefanone.

The study suggests that there are persistent behavioral differences between guys and girls when posting pictures from a cultural focus on the female image and appearance. The research was conducted using a poll where 311 23-year olds were questioned about the amount of time they spend managing their profiles, the pictures that they post and how many.

The same participants were also questioned on several self worth things such as family love and support. As Pleshaw says in his report, some of these things seem fairly obvious but they were trying to see whether what happens in the online world matches that of the real world.

On a personal note, I really don’t think the sample number of users was large enough and if you are doing any research like this then you need to span the age range above and below 23. Especially because of the way social networking and online interactions are constantly changing. You can view a video about the subject matter at the bottom of the article.

What do you think of the research? Once you have watched the video tell us what you think in the comments section below.
