Nintendo 3DS: Using Flash Card Can Get Your Console Banned

The Nintendo 3DS has been talked about quite a lot since its announcement partially for its ability to play 3D games without the use of glasses. Something we should inform you of though, is Nintendo will be taking piracy pretty seriously.

If you were thinking that you might just get your new 3DS and then an R4 card and then download your favorite games avoiding that pesky price tag then think again. Nintendo have been clever in their approach and have built in some kind of log file so that the console knows when you have used the card.

What they will do is each time the card is used the console will remember it and then Nintendo will push a software update to render your console non-bootable. Slashgear’s Shane McGlaun has added in his article a roughly translated note from Enterking (a Japanese gaming gear purveyor). And it says…

“Dear customers who resell Nintendo 3DS. Non-purchase able 3DS system: if you use equipment which is illegal or unapproved by Nintendo or if you do customization which is unapproved by Nintendo, there is a possibility that Nintendo 3DS becomes non-bootable by system update. Because of terms of agreement above, Enterking refuses to buy 3DS system with a record of illegal or unapproved equipment.”

Slashgear sourced Eurogamer who add that they are particularly targeting the R4 card that was previously used to download and play pirated games. It’s a shame but when you think about it they are right to do it. We are just wondering how long it will be until this gets cracked with custom firmware and then that particular mode switched off.

Are Nintendo right in their actions? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hm. Use 3rd party stuff = Nintendo has the right to destroy property.

    Sounds like BS.

If there is no R4 card, no Acekard 2i, DSTWO, what will be for DSi and DS ?

    @ Chris
If you don't agree with the Terms and Conditions agreement… don't buy the console…
They have the right to fight piracy…
