iPad 2 Video Mirroring: Digital AV Adapter HDMI-out Accessory

The official launch of the iPad 2 yesterday caused a lot of excitement in the tech world, almost as much in fact as the appearance of Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the unveiling, as he is currently on medical leave. We already brought you news of one Apple accessory for the iPad 2, the Smart Cover, and now we have news of another Apple accessory for it, the Digital AV Adapter.

We have already told you many details about the iPad 2 such as the release dates, prices and specs, and the fact that its release could put paid to the rumors of an iPad 3 appearing later this year. However one of the things many will be keen on is the Digital AV Adapter, which will be available shortly at $39 and will offer HDMI audio and video output. It offers video out for the original iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch (4th generation) so that you can watch slideshows and movies at up to 720p on your HDTV screens or HDMI-compatible displays.

With the new iPad, due out next week on March 11 (US) the Digital AV Adapter will also support video mirroring so that you’ll be able to see information direct from your iPad 2 screen such as websites, presentations and apps, displayed on your large screen HDTVs or HDMI-compatible displays such as projection screens, at up to 1080p HD or 720p for movies.

It’s pretty simple to use too as one end plugs into the 30-pin connector on your device while the other connects to your HDMI-compatible device with an HDMI cable (extra). As well as this it’s also possible to charge your iPad or whichever other device you’re using it with at the same time, with an extra 30-pin connector to USB cable. You can read more about the Apple Digital AV Adapter at the iPad 2 page here at apple.com, or you can see ordering details here at the online Apple Store.
