RIM BlackBerry PlayBook Release Date: April 10 Likely

We’ve been writing about the RIM BlackBerry Playbook since we first heard about it last September and it looks to be an extremely impressive tablet. This is an upcoming device which has true potential to be a rival to the upcoming Apple iPad 2, (due to be officially announced today), and other tablets such as the Motorola Xoom, which has just been released. Now we have news for you of a release date for the BlackBerry PlayBook, which many people have been waiting for.

Among our countless articles about the PlayBook we included it in our 5 of the best tablets from CES and also gave you a preview, and among our more recent articles were posts on a possibility of Android apps being able to be used on the PlayBook and also the fact that there will be 4 different versions eventually. We also told recently how BlackBerry was on target for a release date in March although that seems to have slipped back slightly.

We now have news from the usually reliable Jonathan S. Geller over on BGR that several sources have informed the site that the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook will be released on April 10. The OS (QNX) gets to the Gold Master stage on March 31 and you’ll get the opportunity to get the updated version of the operating system as soon as you open your PlayBook.

The BlackBerry Playbook has a 7-inch display and 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM but to read more head to the official product site here where you can also see video demos. Although this release news is not yet official we can’t help but notice it came on the same day as the expected announcement about the Apple iPad 2. Not that we’re implying anything!
