Asus Eee Pad Slider: Cheap Alternative To iPad 2?

With the possibility of seeing the iPad 2 unveiled on March 2nd, many other companies are looking to make their products available in line to compete with this. For those looking for a cheap alternative to this Apple product you may be interested in the Asus Eee Slider Pad.

Although the market may be inundated with similar Tablet PC offerings like the Acer Iconia W500 and the Motorola Xoom, this latest offering from Asus could compete with the big dogs offering high end specs without the heavy price tag.

This Android based device is set for release sometime in June, there will be three variants of this device offering on board memory from 16GB to 32GB and 64GB. The price range of this tablet seems to range from £320 to £515 depending on what version you go for. In the video we have embedded below the device is reported to be running on Android 3.0 Honeycomb, but according to this post from Theinquirer the devices will only be running Honeycomb when shipped in June.

Whether or not this device is currently running this update from Android it still houses some pretty great specs, when slid up the machine reveals a pretty good sized QWERTY keyboard. Under the 10.1inch touch screen the Slider houses a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 chip, there is also a 5MP back facing camera and a 1.2Mp front facing one. As there are so many Tablet PC’s to choose from now it’s important that companies do all they can to make their product stand out, we think that this latest offering from Asus could be enough to turn some heads its way.

What are your thoughts on this? Could this rival the iPad?
