Today’s Google Doodle: Wales Celebrate St.David’s Day

The Google Doodle’s are always popular, recent times have see Google changing their logo in dedication to a person or event on the seamless search engine. The most recent ones that we have seen are when it was changed for Ernest Shackleton’s birthday, Valentine’s Day and Robert Burns night.

Today is another day where Google has gone ahead and made that change, they have dedicated today’s page to St.David’s day or as it’s known in Welsh Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant. For those of you who aren’t aware of what it’s about or who St.David was we’ll give you a bit of background.

St.David is the patron saint of Wales, this day isn’t a formal bank holiday although back in 2006 it was requested that it became one only to be rejected by the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Still, undoubtedly the day of feast will be celebrated in Wales with concerts and choir performances.

Over at museumwales.ac.uk there’s been an article added explaining that little is known about him for certain. They go on to say that he was educated in Cardiganshire and went onto pilgrimage where he supposedly founded religious centers including Croyland and Glastonbury. You can read all about him over at the above mentioned website. For anyone who is yet to see today’s doodle, click here to be sent through to Google.
