iPad 2 Price: Could Kill Off The Motorola Xoom

When it comes to the Motorola Xoom we have reported on various information about it, some of our articles include the Xoom being taken apart to reveal its innards, a review of the pros and cons and that there’s a limited edition model being given away at the Oscars.

As for the iPad 2, this device has been dragged through the rumor mill time and time again. So many people have been speculating about what it will and won’t have included including rear and front-facing cameras that have been all but confirmed (similar to the actual tablet) by the new cases that are appearing.

One of the major criticisms of best-in-show device from CES 2011, the Motorola Xoom is that it looks like it’s extortionately expensive for what it is. Recently Debbie Turner of OSM reported that the device would be hitting us with a $599 price tag on a contract or $799 off contract. In the words of Duncan Bannatyne, that’s just ludicrous!

It brings us to think that with competitive pricing the iPad 2 could in fact kick the Xoom into the sunset. We previously asked you how much would you pay for the iPad 2? There are varied responses, but if Apple sticks to their normal trend that we have seen with the iPhone then it should be roughly the same price as the current iPad when it was released. If they were to undercut the Xoom even by $50 then they would more than likely make more sales as people are waiting to see which of the two end up being the cheapest before settling on their purchase. We are all eagerly awaiting the Apple event on March 2nd hoping its for the iPad 2 but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The bottom line is so far as the specs are comparable, if the iPad 2 is cheaper than the Xoom then we can’t see as bright a future for the device as first expected. What do you think? If the prices and specs were similar, which would you choose? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

But then you have to remember….It's still an iPad. Still running on the same mobile OS that has brought us no innovation in its lifetime save for…..wait for it….FOLDERS. So, screw the iPad and any other iOS device. iOS peaked a long time ago and it's time to move on from it.

In the beginning, there was iPad…
A year later, Motorola copied them.
Motorola also copied Apple's infamous "1984" commercial.
3 weeks later, iPad 2 is released and Xoom is forgotten.

    Xoom Fails:

    1. $800 price tag for a poorly made piece of plastic tech.
    2. No apps whatsoever!
    3. Can't play HD video without encoding it first, unless you want your playback as choppy as an ocean.
    4. No WIFI only model.
    5. Honeycomb stalls, stutters and crashes frequently.
    6. Promised Adobe Flash as they cry to fame and it doesn't ship with the mediocre device.
    7. Mail in update to 4G (six days or more, to be exact).

Good luck Motorola, we'll be able to pick one of these up in a thrift shop in a couple months.
