Android Market Gets eBooks: Not Live In UK Yet

Google has brought their eBooks service to the Android Market, but for now it is only available in the US.

The eBooks store is inside the Market sitting next to the apps and games tabs; accessing the tab will allow you to buy and read the books on your Android phone or tablet. According to Cnet, you can also send the eBooks to your Google account and use the Web Android Market to buy them and send them wirelessly to your Android device.

PDF Files has reported that there are several categories in the store such as top selling, top free and new arrivals. There is also a new slideshow feature at the top of the screen which displays some of the popular titles, top rated, new and noteworthy, bestselling or a book club pick. With the addition of books, it will surely not be long before we see the arrival of music and movies to the Android Market.

The store became accessible to all US residents about 2 days ago, with no news as of yet regarding a UK release. Is there a big enough demand for eBooks on Android devices for it to be made a success? Let us know your thoughts and if you will take advantage of the availability of electronic books.
