New MacBook Pro 2011 Line: Latest News & Rumored Features

Since we heard rumors that the new MacBook Pro line refresh was on its way we’ve been giving you as much news, and speculation, as possible as we realize there are a lot of people who can’t wait to find out more. At the weekend we told how the new Pros were being shipped to dealers as early as this week with a possible release date of March, and then we also told of rumors regarding new Light Peak technology for the MacBook Pro refresh which would offer high-speed connection.

Now we’ve heard whispers of a couple of new features for the MacBook Pros. Jonathan S. Geller over on BGR backs up our report that the Pros could be released in the next 2 weeks according to a source. On top of that the source spoke of a couple of features that we hadn’t heard mention of before. The first one is a new glass trackpad bigger than that of the current models, which are already large.

Secondly it seems that the operating system on the new Pros will be on a separate 8-16GB SSD although everything else will continue to be on the hard drive. Alternatively some models will be available just with SSD drives. It’s also reported that the new Pros will be around half a pound lighter than their like-to-like current versions.

Further to our previous report about some European stores having no availability or ordering capability for present MacBook Pros at the moment, a report on Apple Insider tells how U.S. ship times for current MacBook Pros have been bumped to between 3 and 5 business days. This extra shipping time often happens just before Apple launches a new product so the signs are looking good for an imminent release of the new MacBook Pro line in the next few days. We’ll continue to keep you up-to-date with MacBook Pro news as we hear it.

  • Don`t tell you!!

Something really interesting for all of you.

I am from germany and a friend of mine is the vice-storemanager of a Apple-Store here in germany (I dont tell you which one). Of course I asked him about the new Pro`s and as I expected he don´t know. BUT. He told me this morning, that they received 5 paletts which were wraped with brown plastic film and allover sealed with Apple-Tape. Notes on the pallets say not to open them until they get further instructions. Under the tape is something like a cable he said, which lays allover the palette. He thought that it could be like an indicator which alarms maybe Apple that the tape is released to early.

So, something is coming i guess!!

I don't like the idea of the track pad getting any bigger than it already is…

I want the range to be thinner and lighter, while also increasing battery life and power. I know I'm asking for everything there, but I think apple are capable of it.

If the new pro range is not much better then I will settle for the MBA 13 with the 4gb RAM and processor upgrades – its light and agile enough for me – where as the current 13inch pro is just massive and heavy without adding any real power

I use the MacBook Air 13-inch myself and can really recommend it George. Thanks for reading!
