iPhone 5 Release: Conflicting Delay Reports & iPad 2

It’s been a strange sort of day in the world that is Apple news, rumor and speculation. First of all we reported that the iPad 2 might well be delayed, after a report from analysts at Yuanta Securities Co. in Taiwan. Then there was the news that the new MacBook Pro line was imminent. Then we heard of another piece of news that’s been floating around all day about a possible delay of the iPhone 5, that was expected in June…or not?

The first report we spotted about a next-generation iPhone being delayed was from Dan Frommer of Business Insider. The article was about an FBR Capital Markets analyst, Craig Berber, who had written that instead of the annual June or July launch, the release of the iPhone 5 may not come until September, listing various reasons why and concluding, “Given these factors, we think a September launch is more likely, off from Apple’s traditional iPhone launch schedule, but giving the firm more time to enhance it’s next-generation instant communications on the phone.”

This story then swept the Internet and a TIME article by Doug Aamoth picked up on the earlier reports from analysts about a delayed iPad 2 and also added information from the separate analyst about the iPhone 5 being pushed back to September, although Aamoth did warn to take it with a pinch of salt for now. Among more reports, another also appeared on The Washington Post by Hayley Tsukayama, also reporting on a late arrival for the iPhone 5 and the earlier rumor of a delayed release for the iPad 2.

However, we then picked up on a report on Apple Insider, which says that both pieces of speculation from the different analysts have been reported as being innacurate. Apple Insider pointed to a report on Reuters, which categorically denied the release date delay rumor for the iPad 2. It also noted another report by Tim Dalrymple on The Loop, which first disputed the earlier piece of speculation regarding delays on the iPad 2 and then also dismissed the speculation regarding an iPhone 5 release delay as well. Dalrymple said, “From what I’ve heard this morning, both products are on schedule and will ship when they are supposed to. Only Apple knows exactly when that will be, but the products are not delayed.”

There have been so many reports now with conflicting information that frankly you’d be better off ignoring them for now as ultimately only Apple knows the truth of it. What are your thoughts on the release date rumors? Maybe you’d like to add some speculation of your own? Why not send us your comments about this.
