Apple iPad 2 Delay: Design Changes Blamed June Likely?

There are no doubt plenty of you waiting for the arrival of the next generation iPad or iPad 2 if you prefer, and although rumors suggested that its launch would be sometime in April, it seems judging by today’s news you may have to wait a little longer, in fact sometime in June.

The iPad 2 along with the iPhone 5 have both been a huge topic of discussion over recent months, and if we are to believe the news of a subsequent delay, the iPad 2 could release the same time as the iPhone 5 around June 6th, and on thinking about it, perhaps its not such a bad idea? By the time that month comes, other tablet devices would have been launched such as the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and BlackBerry PlayBook, hence giving Apple a feel for the market.

So the question you, as well as the rest of the tech world may be asking is why the delay? Over at AppleInsider via Bloomberg, analysts Vincent and Alison Chen from Taiwan based research firm “Yuanta Securities Co,” issued a report stating that the problem was down to “production bottlenecks,” at Apple’s manufacturing partner Hon Hai. Following on from this it was suggested that the changes in design earlier this month were a key factor to its delay.

In regards to the above, Chen said in a statement, “Our checks suggest new issues are being encountered with the new production and it is taking time to resolve them. As a number of Android 3.0 tablets are being launched in April and May, the delay in iPad 2 shipments may give the Android camp a brief window of opportunity.

As Phonesreview quite rightly pointed out, if this news is anything to go by, then shipments could then be decreased resulting in forecasts of 30.6 million down to 23 million units in 2011.

So after digesting what could be bad news for you but possibly good news for Apple, what can we make of all of this? Yesterday, we reported on UK carriers such as Orange, T-Mobile and Carphone Warehouse as well as a European retailer opening its doors and selling the first generation to existing customers at a knocked down price, therefore clearing their inventory. This then started up the rumor mill in full swing again, suggesting that if this was the case then the iPad 2 was definitely on its way.

Rumors are building as to what the tablet will look like as well as internals and externals such as faster CPU, dual-core graphics, FaceTime ready camera, even accessories such as a leather case that has been seen and just the other day we heard that Apple were thinking of organising an event in March to possibly unveil the new tab.

So what are your thoughts on today’s news? Can you see the iPad 2 launch ever happening, or maybe its a repeat of the white iPhone saga, where we were and still waiting? Let us know what you think?
