New MacBook Pro 2011 Refresh: Release Next Week Plus Pricing?

We have some news today for Apple MacBook Pro enthusiasts that might just get you excited. A few days ago we told how the refreshed MacBook Pro line was on its way, with updated MacBook Pros not only in production but also with a possible release date of early March.

We have had further news today on the release and also pricing for the new range of Pros although bear in mind there is speculation involved and nothing is actually official yet. Nevertheless Apple Insider has raised our hopes with its report on Apple sending out sealed packages to dealers from this week with strict instructions not to “breach the integrity of sealed palette shipments that may begin arriving as early as tomorrow.”

The significant point of this is that European dealers could be receiving shipments tomorrow but this is a federal holiday in the U.S. and there’s no way that Apple would launch a new line on a federal holiday. Therefore according to the “person familiar with the matter” dealers are being told that an official announcement will follow soon. Apple is being pretty serious about this as is warning that reseller licenses could be withdrawn from dealers who compromise its instructions.

In previous product launches Apple has sent out shipments very shortly before an official announcement with black plastic wrap concealing the products and as an added measure “Apple Confidential” tape wrapped around. We all know that Apple is famed for its secrecy and this is obviously no exception. To back this up it seems that for many distributors in Europe, current MacBook Pros have been unavailable for the last few weeks and it has not been possible to order a current MacBook Pro for two weeks now.

This news is all looking pretty good for those of you looking forward to the release of the refreshed MacBook Pro line. As far as pricing goes this is a little more speculative but comes from the ever-reliable Vlad Savov over on Engadget so we’re inclined to take it seriously. It appears that Best Buy’s Laptop Configurator is listing “new SKU” laptops from Apple and included price points so the logical deduction is that this is for the new MacBook Pros.

The different prices listed are $1,199, $1,499, $1,799, $2,199 and $2,499. The first four prices would align with 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook pros while Savov speculates that the highest price could be for an upgraded 17-inch version. When we tried to check out the Best Buy Laptop Configurator it was not accessible but you can see from the Engadget picture above that the information was certainly there. What are your thoughts on the imminent availability of upgraded MacBook Pros? Let us know by sending us your comments.

I was planning on buying my first macbook yesterday, however a good friend of mine told me i should wait as he thought that there would be a refresh coming soon. Hopefully all this hype i have been reading about is true! When i was at bestbuy yesterday there was an apple rep there and when i ask him about the new macbooks, he said he couldn't comment and tried to sell me the current ones they had. He was acting a little uneasy as i kept prying so I think something must be going on. Who knows i jusy hope it comes soon i'm am eager to be a new mac owner!!
