YouTube Star: 10 Year Old Singer Signed By Simon Cowell

We brought you the news recently that a new star in the making had been spotted on YouTube. A 10 year old Canadian girl called Heather Russel has been dubbed the female Justin Bieber and is set to rise to fame in the same way he did.

Music mogul Simon Cowell has snapped up the young singing sensation and signed her to his record label Syco, with Yahoo reporting that “he just loved her”. There was interest from a number of big names in the business with Rob Fusari amongst them; the producer discovered none other than Lady Gaga. Russel looks to have a huge future ahead of her and it is once again thanks to the aid of social media and the community.

Cowell has a famous hard to please attitude and is renowned for spotting and bringing the best out of talent, running several shows around the world such as the X Factor and American Idol. According to CTV Toronto, Cowell gave Russel a contract after former Canadian Idol judge Zack Werner tipped him off to her songs posted on YouTube. Follow the link to see a video of Heather singing.

Heather’s song “every step of the way” which she wrote and sang with the music provided by her father, was posted on the video sharing site last July and had around 100,000 hits. In the last 3 days this number has tripled to 323,000 viewings, with the spotlight being firmly on the young musician. We we most certainly be seeing plenty of her in the coming years; will she be as big as Bieber?
