Motorola Xoom UK Release: Expected Summer With News Of Price?

Here at OSM, we have kept you up to date as much as possible with the goings on relating to Motorola’s Xoom tablet. The Android device has plagued the world wide web in recent weeks, seen as a stiff contender against Apple’s ever popular iPad. News of an official date with pre-ordering details has altered on a few occasions and if nothing changes, for now the launch date stands at the 24th February.

Yesterday we gave you news about a leaked instruction manual for the Xoom (click here), listing its internal and external workings, and how for many of you wanting to pre-order your device through Best Buy, would now have to wait from the 17th until the 20th which is just a matter of days now.

For anyone in the UK wishing to get in on the act, you will have to wait just a little longer, as according to Cnet, retailers will be stocking the device just in time for the summer months. Unfortunately a concrete date has not been announced although we can say that PC World and Currys will carry the WiFi only model, whilst The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy will include both the 3G and WiFi models. Over at Slashgear it was reported that on a Carphone Warehouse “pre-interest” page, it was pointing towards a date in April.

On announcing to the world that they would be bringing a Xoom tablet out, Motorola have endured criticism surrounding the price. We can say that on recent information from Debbie here at OSM, the 3G 32GB Xoom will be priced in US Dollars at $799, whilst the WiFi only model will set you back a little less at $600. No official pricing has been confirmed for the UK market but over at website “Handtec” it was listed for pre-order last month at £720, but on looking at it today, it clearly states “Price to be confirmed.”

In a recent statement from Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy’s Chief Commercial Officer “Graham Stapleton,” he said, “Demand for tablets has already been greater than expected and the next 12 months will see them being adopted by more and more people as new products are unveiled.”

Will you be saving up your pennies for one of these? If not, which tablet if any are you tempted by? Let us know.
