Ebay Beats Apple In Top 50 Brands In Social Media

When we talk about social media brands auction site eBay is not the first thing that normally comes to mind, it would appear that this is not the case as the auction site has just beaten iPhone giant Apple in a league of the top 50 brands in social media.

According to this post from Macworld.com the top five brands in this league were all technology companies, these were the winner’s eBay, Apple, Google, BlackBerry (RIM) and Amazon. The highest placed company that wasn’t a technology brand was Gucci who managed to slip into sixth place.

This list was compiled by marketing firm Alterian who ranked the results according to their social media reputation score, these score were accumulated by how many times these brands were talked about on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The company used human analysis to read these messages in order to see whether the brands received positive or negative feedback.

According to Alterian’s official site eBay were ranked first because of its long standing engagement with its customers through forums, corporate blogging and its ability to adapt to new social media offerings.
