HTC Thunderbolt Review: Plus video comparisons

There’s an awful lot of buzz around at the moment about the newest 4G smartphones coming to the market and the HTC Thunderbolt, the first LTE phone coming to Verizon, seems to be one of the most popular. We’ve already published many articles on the Thunderbolt and among our most recent were a free Mobile Hotspot rumor and a look at its single-core processor.

Most of the attention right now though seems to surround the actual release date, which seems to chop and change all the time and we know from response to our previous articles that many people who are waiting for the Thunderbolt are becoming somewhat impatient, and who could blame them. However yesterday we published news that a new teaser video about an imminent release seemed to suggest it would come very soon. Now though, in case you’re undecided, we thought it would be a good idea to look at a review of this much-hyped phone.

An article by Steve Taylor over on GizmoCrunch takes a look at the HTC Thunderbolt and also provides some handy videos, courtesy of Wirefly. You can see one of the YouTube videos below this story, which gives an 8-minute review of the Thunderbolt and two more videos over at the GizmoCrunch link above, comparing the Thunderbolt firstly with the HTC Evo 4G and then the iPhone 4. Some benchmark tests on the Thunderbolt show that it’s not as fast as Samsung Galaxy S phones, however it does out-perform the HTC Evo 4G easily.

The 4.3-inch LCD screen is said to be very decent with resolution of 480 x 800 and the Wirefly reviewer points out various features as he goes through the review, such as the 8-megapixel rear camera capable of 720p HD video capture. There’s also a handy kickstand on the reverse of this phone which is a good touch. The front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera is higher spec than many other front-facing phone cameras and the reviewer also points out the Mobile Hotspot capability and the excellent amount of storage.

If you’re wondering how the Thunderbolt would hold out against the iPhone 4 then Wirefly points out that the many features of the Thunderbolt means it could surpass the iPhone 4 on Verizon in a matter of a few months. If you want to find out more about the HTC Thunderbolt check out the HTC product page here where you will find all the information you need on specs and more. Why not take a look at the review and afterwards let us know, are you are still enthusiastic about the Thunderbolt? From the look of it there’s a lot to love about this upcoming handset but perhaps you’ve got your eyes on a different new phone? Send us your comments to let us know.
