HTC Debut ChaCha & Salsa Smartphones: Access Facebook The Easy Way

News from the Mobile World Congress 2011 is hotting up, and reports of new devices particularly from HTC are coming in thick and fast today. Not only is there news of devices such as the HTC Android Flyer Tablet, a big contender against Apple’s iPad, but smartphones such as the Desire S, Wildfire S and Incredible S, and lets not forget the Thunderbolt due to be released on the 24 February. But the 2 that caught our eye are not only offering some pretty fantastic features of their own but will have the inclusion of a new Facebook button.

Bring on the HTC ChaCha and Salsa which have been shown off in all their glory. The 2 affordable Android handsets will both include the Facebook button which can be used to connect you directly to the social networking site. The button will give out a pulsating light to let you know to share content or update your status if wanted, and as Slashgear pointed out, the button allows you to share photos or join links to music and Facebook Places. As well as this, if you are currently on a webpage and decide to press the button, coincidentally positioned at the bottom middle of the handset, then it will automatically pick up the URL.

The other benefit to having the new Facebook button on your handset is that as Pocketlint reported, Facebook messages will automatically transfer straight into a universal email and the option of Facebook chat can be accessed. Coming back to the photo facility, if you are currently looking at a photo and decide to press the blue button, then both handsets will give you the option to upload it. People can be tagged, comments added, adjustable privacy settings and so on.

Steering off the Facebook button to give you a rundown of specs for both handsets. The ChaCha will include a 2.6-inch capacitive touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard whilst the Salsa a full touchscreen display. Both devices will run with Android’s 2.2 OS, powered by a MSM 7277 Qualcomm 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM and ROM, 5 megapixel front and VGA rear, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and much more.

In a statement from the CEO of HTC “Peter Chou,” he said, “HTC has always understood that people want different things and the new HTC ChaCha and Salsa offer special new ways to experience Facebook on a mobile device. With more than 500 million active users worldwide, Facebook has become synonymous with the social web and we wanted to create the ultimate socially connected phones with mass market appeal.”

At this current time, unfortunately we cannot give you any concrete prices for both HTC’s, but information gained from the official HTC press release, has stated that due to the “relatively slow” processor, the company has managed to keep the price down. In terms of launch date for both, we can tell you that is more than likely going to be at the end of Quarter 2, with Vodafone within the UK already signing up to the ChaCha.

Are you impressed by the idea of the Facebook button? Let us know if this or any of the HTC offerings are ticking the boxes with you?
