Samsung Galaxy S2 & Galaxy Tab 2 confirmed names S II & Tab II

Over the last few weeks we’ve been bringing you news and speculation about the Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet. The devices were commonly known by these names but the names had not yet been confirmed. In the last few days news on these upcoming devices has been coming thick and fast.

Yesterday we told how it had been confirmed that both of these would be revealed at MWC 2011 tomorrow (February 13) and gave some more details including the fact that the Galaxy Tab 2 would be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. That will surely please a lot of people. Then earlier today we published more news and specs on both of these devices along with a leaked picture of the Galaxy S2 smartphone.

Now we have further news for you and that is that the names of these two devices has now been confirmed as the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Galaxy Tab II, according to Vlad Savov over on Engadget, sourced from internal Samsung documents. Along with further news on specs which we included in our story from earlier today (linked to above), we also hear that the resolution on the Galaxy Tab II will match the Motorola Xoom at 1280 x 800.

We also learn from Engadget that one of these devices, although they were not sure which one, had versions of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage listed. If this was for the Galaxy S II smartphone then it would be the first to have a storage over 60GB. Both of these devices are looking highly impressive and tomorrow we shall no doubt find out even more.

Although the Galaxy Tab II sounds like a competitive tablet it looks as though Samsung are already behind in the tablet wars. Chris Burns over on Android Community, sourced from SlashGear, tells of a poll which asks which upcoming tablet people are most excited about. At the time of writing 29% chose the Apple iPad 2, while 23% went for the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 came further down the list on only 8%.

With the current specs we’ve found for the Galaxy Tab II maybe it doesn’t deserve to have such little enthusiasm although once it’s officially unveiled tomorrow it may start to win over more people.
