Nokia / Microsoft Vs Apple, Google RIM: Who Will Benefit?

With the recent alliance of two of the biggest names in the industry Microsoft and Nokia should have all their competitors running scared, although it seems this may not be the case and the likes of Apple, Google and RIM could also benefit from this partnership.

Following Friday’s announcement which saw the untimely demise of the Symbian platform in favour of Windows Phone 7, it is being reported that this move by both these market leading companies could in turn have the opposite desired impact. How could this be possible?

A post by Apple Insider is reporting that Mike Abramsky an analyst from RBC Capital Markets is questioning whether or not this partnership will really have the desired effect. He feels that these companies could take a bit too long to get established with their joint venture, leaving the market open to its rivals. There are also concerns that this new bond could take time and effort away from other manufacturers such as LG and Samsung, who already have windows based devices on the market.

There are many that agree with this theory, in this post from The Scotsman CCS:Insight analyst Ben Wood said “This is a clear admission that Nokia’s own-platform strategy has faltered. Microsoft is the big winner in this deal, but there are no silver bullets for either company, given the strength of iPhone and Google’s Android.”

Whether or not this partnership turns sour or produces some amazing things together one thing is clear, the next following year is going to be one to keep a very close eye on.

What do you think about this new partnership?
