Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: Hitting All 5 Big UK Networks

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is one of the highly anticipated devices for 2011. Dubbed the PlayStation phone it is fairly accurate as it is pretty much a mini-PlayStation with calling capabilities. We previously reported a preview before its release and now we are hearing more details of carriers for the device.

According to Sarah Griffiths of Hexus.Channel the brand spanking new device will be hitting all five of the UK’s big networks. These include O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and Three. O2 were the first to announce that the sought after device would coming to its network when it informed the world via Twitter “Awesome news – the Sony Ericsson”.

The device has some cool specs; these include a 4” LCD display, microUSB port and a 1GHz processor. Something else that is being talked about in conjunction with the device is the fact that it will be running on Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread platform.

Whilst this handset has all the bells and whistles, the carriers don’t, one thing that these UK carriers have across all of their networks is a usage cap. With the thought of usage cap and Sony’s remote play, these things don’t strike me as going hand in hand. However putting the device across all the carriers is a great move by Sony, it’s going to increase the revenue that they would have perhaps missed out on if it was an exclusive.

Check out the video at the bottom of the article, it’s a bit creepy but interesting at the same time. Sony is known for their ads that make impact and the thought of an Android bot with thumbs… It’s a bit disturbing.
