Google Wedding Planning: Help with your big day

Planning a wedding is big business these days but for those who don’t want to pay for professional services or want a more personal touch then we’ve just heard of a really useful innovation from Google. With all the current talk of Google in talks to purchase Twitter you’d think the tech giant would have too much else on its mind but apparently not, as now Google is launching a dedicated site to help you plan your big day.

Users will be able to create their own wedding website with the help of templates designed specifically for weddings from sources such as Google Docs and Google Sites. The news comes to us from Todd Wasserman over on Mashable, sourced from the Google Blog, and Google has worked alongside, Michelle Rago, a professional wedding planner, to develop the templates and also offer advice.

If you’re in the U.S. you can even take part in a sweepstake for Rago to win $25,000 and help with your big occasion from Rago herself. It’s all part of Google’s initiative to become more social and involved with the consumer so take a look at the website here. We’ve already taken a look and I wish it had been available for my wedding as it’s extremely comprehensive and should really help you with all your wedding organization.

Matt Warman over on The Telegraph also reports on this latest move by Google and speaks of the growing market in wedding planning with Chris Kelly of wedding site gettingmarried.co.uk, saying, “In just over a year, we’ve grown to over 40,000 soon-to-be-married members, all of whom are already happily creating their free wedding websites.” What are your thoughts on the Google wedding website? We’d be interested to hear from you about this so please do send us your comments.
