Facebook Insults: MCFC Worker Shuts His Page Down After Attack On Rivals

A Manchester City Football Club employee has been forced to immediately close down his Facebook page, due to it being filled with insults against their rivals Manchester United one day ahead of the big derby match between the two sides.

Ged Coyne who has been a groundsman at City for the past 15 years, converted his personal Facebook page into what looks similar to a Manchester United hate page with words such as “scum” being used. The Telegraph has reported that there were personal attacks on United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and recently retired defender Gary Neville.

Relations between the two clubs have been very hostile over the past few years with the Carlos Tevez billboard mockery an example of this. United had the last laugh on both occassions last season with late injury time winners home and away. According to The Drum, Greater Manchester Police this week contacted both Manchester clubs about inflaming tensions and also stressed the importance of anti-hooligansim.

Meanwhile the 31 year old groundsman has appealed against the closure of his social networking page, describing it simply as “banter”. A little friendly banter is fine but when you publiclly brand somebody like Sir Alex Ferguson “‘Alex purple-head Ferguscum”, then you may be in for a little trouble.

What do you make of all the spats between the Manchester clubs, is social networking and insults being a part of football too much? Leave us your thoughts on the feud and also your predictions for tomorrow’s massive game.
