iPhone Passwords Extracted In Minutes

Following on from a previous post about improving the security on your Smartphone, it appears that there are more extravagant ways to gain access to your information. A video has been posted that shows an iPhone having its passwords extracted in mere minutes.

This video is the work of researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute Secure Information Technology, who demo just how quickly they can jailbreak and gain passwords from your phone’s keychain. This means they can gain valuable information such as your home Wi-Fi details, MS exchange, corporate VPN and even your email account.

That’s ok I have a password on my handset we hear you say, seems that this is no deterrent as this is easily bypassed when the jailbreak is carried out. To read more on this follow this link over to Engadget.com, you can also watch the video of this process below.

It seems the safest thing you can do to protect your valuable information is to set up remote wipe on your device, this service is free to all iPad, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS( running IOS 4.2) users, if you don’t qualify for the free use you may be able to still use the service but for a small charge. Follow this link to the official Apple site and find out more.

So it seems people are devising more and more ways to gain access to our personal information but don’t let this put you off, the chances of you losing your handset and it ending up in the hands of someone with these capabilities is quiet unlikely. If you’re anything like us then your phone is one of your most treasured possessions so you guard it with your life, keep this up and you will have nothing to worry about.

Do you think Apple should be doing more to improve the security of their handsets?
