Xperia Play Official: Full launch at MWC February 13 – 6PM GMT

At last we have news that the somewhat mythical Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone, will soon be made official. We’ve already seen a preview of a prototype, some news of a leaked commercial (pretty odd!) and also expectations of an announcement at MWC 2011 among our many posts on this upcoming phone.

Now we hear that the Xperia Play is indeed to be made official at last in an article by Vlad Savov over on Engadget. Sony Ericsson has released details of a launch event for the Xperia play at MWC in Barcelona. For those that don’t know that’s the Mobile World Congress, one of the highlights of the tech year. Not only have they given us confirmation of the launch but also given the precise date and time.

The event will be on February 13 at 6:00pm GMT and the announcement simply says, “Android is ready to play.” The Xperia Play is pictured in all its glory in a couple of photos so at last we can all stop wondering. Now we know the device actually does exist the next thing we will all start pondering about is when the handset will actually be released, but that’s another story.
