Update Gives Multi-Touch To Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

For all of you frustrated Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners out there, we finally have some good news for you! There is a form of multi-touch that will be hitting your devices via an update. Why is this coming to the X10 now?

The reason that they are importing the new functionality is because of the feedback they received from everyone who has purchased one. From the beginning Sony Ericsson said they wouldn’t be adding multi-touch with this device partly because of the chip inside the device.

The engineers over at Sony Ericsson must have been working hard; if the touch-chip isn’t optimized for multi-touch then they have had their work cut out. Still it’s great to see the pinch zoom effect being present.

Over at Engadget they are reporting that as part of the update they are enabling ANT+ support so have a look at their explanation of it on Chris Ziegler’s article. Meanwhile over at the Sony Ericsson blog there is a post that has been added that informs the world of the update that is on its way. They have posted a pretty impressive video that shows the functionality, it also shows some of the things that aren’t working so perfectly. Take a look for yourself at the bottom of the article.

What people tend to forget with this device is that it has been around for a while therefore the upgrading to Android’s 2.2 or 2.3 may well not be possible. I guess we have to wait and see. What do you think of the additional functionality coming to the X10? Let us know in the comments section below.
